Barranca El Choncho /
Cuzalapa Coffee Plantation:
Moderate Activity,
Birding |
|
|
This tour leaves early in the morning and starts with a
birding hike up the heavily forested stream of Barranca
El Chonco. From there we continue on hwy. 80 toward
Guadalajara stopping for lunch in the town of La Huerta,
the municipal government of La Manzanilla. Then, we
continue on and cross into the Sierra Manantlán
Biosphere Reserve before arriving in the semi-indigenous
town of Cuzalapa. Here we’ll get a tour from
fourth-generation farmers of a 100-year old organic,
shade-grown coffee plantation, and we’ll learn about the
history of coffee farming in Cuzalapa and of the
formation of the ‘Café Cuzalapa’ womens’ co-op which has
saved these ancient plantations from being turned into
pasture land. Of course, you’ll get to try the coffee as
well! |
